Meet Our Authors

Michael Paul Hurd is the owner and founder of Lineage Independent Publishing. He is a veteran of the United States Air Force and a retired federal civilian employee. He has been married to his wife, Sandy, for more than 40 years. It was the research work of their deceased son, Adam, that inspired the Lineage Series of historical fiction novels. His research uncovered several intersections between the family tree and historical events, providing off-ramps to stories about the life and times of ancestors who could have been involved in those events. The first book in the series, “Lineage: A Novel” set the stage for the series as each chapter in that work was a vignette expandable into a full-length work.

Lisa Talbott joined the Lineage team in late 2019, before the company was even a year old. She is a British expatriate living in Portugal with her nonagenarian mother, surrounded by open space and a growing menagerie of cats and dogs. Lisa was born in Norfolk (UK), but grew up in Leicestershire. In retirement, she hoped to grow tomatoes and write song lyrics. Instead, she ventured into poetry and short stories before trying her hand at novels. Lisa’s works are inspired by her diverse life experiences. She is sometimes funny, somtimes pensive, and always cheeky. Her writings are sure to have something for everyone.

Rebecca Conaty Bruce (aka R. C. Bruce) retired from the health care industry and hospital work after a career spanning 27 years. Rebecca now lives in Florida with her husband where writing full-time is her passion. Rebecca enjoys including strong female characters while weaving in historical facts and places. Rebecca became internationally published with her first novel “Irish Bones” and a subsequent sequel. She then went on to write a detective series about cold cases in Texas titled “The Esther Valentine Chronicles” before joining Lineage Independent Publishing. After joining our team of authors Rebecca has written three books. She decided to try her hand at Young Adult fiction when she wanted to write a book that her grandchildren could read. The result was “Journey… the Healer,” becoming her first book under the Lineage imprint. Rebecca’s newest novel, published in late 2023 is “Cranberry Wine,” a suspenseful romance. Rebecca joined the Lineage team in 2021.

Patricia Donoghue, writing under the pen name G. B. Carmichael, was born in Scotland in the “fabulous fifties.” She now lives on the south coast of England in a town overlooking the English Channel. She is “Nana” to four boys and three girls. Her life’s journey has included time as a bookie’s clerk and a prison psychologist; at one time, she operated her own Highland regalia and instrument business. Pat writes under the pen name G. B. Carmichael in honor of her great-uncle, Private Gabriel Baird Carmichael who died from wounds sustained in the Great War (World War I) a mere sixteen days before the Armistice on November 11, 1918. Pat joined the lineage team in 2021.

Lorna Hart is now retired after living a strange and nomadic life. From the age of 17, she travelled much of the world, working as a stage assistant to her professional magician husband. In her forties and divorced, Lorna raised a family of four on her own, working as a secretary and then as a PA to support her family. After retirement, she spent five years enjoying the expat life in central Portugal before returning to a small friendly market town in rural Herefordshirre, UK. Now Very happily living alone, her writing and painting occupy all her spare time. She showcases both on her own website. Lorna joined the Lineage team in 2022 with the publication of her debut novel, “Moonpath,” which provided an engrossing and believable backstory for a very brief encounter with a young girl in Beirut.

Martin Radford writes for Lineage Independent Publishing under the pen name of Beck Hilliard. He also joined the Lineage team in 2022. A techie at heart, Beck was forced into retirement when a computer spat out his name as the next competitor on “The Long Walk to Social Security.” He ultimately ended up in a genteel town on the southeast coast of England that produced Spike Milligan and Eddie Izzard. When the batteries on the TV remote expired while he was doing his research, he joined a local writers’ club. From there, Beck escaped his literary isolation when a fellow member pointed him in the direction of Lineage Independent Publishing. Beck’s writings take humorous and satirical looks at the lives of OAPs (that’s Old Age Pensioners / retirees to you Yanks!) in the UK.
